MyCourses: New Content Experience Becomes Default for Spring 2027 Semester

On December 14, 2026, MyCourses will transition to the New Content Experience (NCE) as the default content experience for all courses. This change reflects the continued evolution of our digital learning environment and provides instructors and students with a more modern, streamlined, and intuitive way to access and interact with course content.

Why Are We Making This Change?

The New Content Experience has matured significantly over the last several years, with numerous enhancements focused on improving usability, accessibility, course organization, and student engagement. Many of D2L’s recent content-related innovations have been developed specifically for the New Content Experience, making it the preferred environment for future enhancements.

In addition to providing a more modern learning environment, this transition helps align the MyCourses experience with the digital learning environment used by the University System of Georgia’s eCore program. Many Georgia Gwinnett College faculty teach eCore courses, and many GGC students enroll in eCore coursework as part of their academic journey. Adopting the same content experience across both learning environments creates greater consistency, reduces the need to learn multiple content interfaces, and helps instructors and students navigate courses more confidently.

What’s New?

A Cleaner, More Modern Interface

The New Content Experience replaces traditional folder-based navigation with a streamlined layout that keeps the course structure visible while displaying content on the same page. This approach reduces unnecessary clicks and makes it easier for students to move through course materials.

Improved Course Organization

Module descriptions are more prominent, helping instructors communicate important information and learning expectations. Color-coded modules and a simplified structure also make it easier for students to locate content and understand course organization at a glance.

Integrated Learning Activities

Assignments, discussions, quizzes, documents, and other learning materials are more tightly integrated into the content area. Students can engage with many course activities directly from Content, creating a smoother learning experience.

Completion Summary

A major benefit for instructors is the Completion Summary, which provides a quick overview of student participation and progress within assessable activities. Instructors can quickly identify who has and hasn’t completed coursework and access submissions and feedback tools more efficiently.

Enhanced Student Navigation

The New Content Experience encourages a simpler course structure that is easier for students to follow. The always-visible table of contents helps students understand where they are in the course and quickly navigate between learning materials.

What Features Are Changing?

Workflows for creating and adding existing content will change.

While the New Content Experience supports the vast majority of common instructional workflows, some features available in Classic Content are not currently available in the New Content Experience or may be deprecated permanently.

Examples include:

  • Bulk editing of content items
  • Content bookmarks and the Overview page
  • Broken-link indicators displayed directly within Content

In many cases, alternative workflows exist, and Brightspace continues to release enhancements that close the gap between the two experiences.

What Do Instructors Need to Do?

Most existing course content will continue to function normally. However, instructors are encouraged to explore the New Content Experience before the December 14, 2026, transition.

Instructors can request a sandbox course or building section to explore and test NCE.
