Academic Technology Updates for June 2025

New updates are available in MyCourses, Respondus Lockdown Browser, and Panorama! See below for details, and please contact helpdesk@ggc.edu if you encounter any problems or have questions.

MyCourses

Awards – Replacement strings for award issuer on certificates | New

Instructors can now personalize certificates and certificate templates in the Awards tool using new replacement strings. The {IssuerFirstName} and {IssuerLastName} strings insert the first and last name of the user who manually issues a certificate to a student.

For manually issued certificates, the issuer name will utilize the name of the user who issued the certificate. In cases where a certificate using these replacement strings is conditionally released, the issuer name areas of the certificate will utilize the name of the account.

Notes:

  • The replacement strings use preferred names.
  • If the issuer updates their name, the name that displays on the certificate reflects the current name setting at the time of issuance. Previously issued certificates do not update.
  • Depending on the certificate template, the inserted text may extend beyond the borders of the text box. Instructors may need to adjust the template layout to ensure issuer names appear correctly.
Quizzes – IPv6 support for IP Restrictions | New

IPv6 addresses can now be used as IP restrictions in Quizzes, improving access for institutions and students on IPv6-only networks.

Instructors can now restrict quiz access based on either IPv4 or IPv6 address ranges. This provides more flexibility and better network compatibility when securing quizzes.

Respondus Lockdown Browser

Respondus Monitor now supports switching to MS Excel during an online exam. To enable, expand the Advanced Settings section in the Lockdown Browser exam settings.

What to Know

  • A new instructor setting for Respondus Monitor enables students to switch between an online exam and Excel.
  • Screen Recording is required since the Excel environment is not locked down.
  • The timeline for the proctoring results shows when Excel is used with corresponding video.

Notes:

  • This option is not available for the iPad or Chromebook version of LockDown Browser.
  • Excel for Web isn’t supported.
  • The standard version of LockDown Browser (the one installed by students) will be updated at startup if the version doesn’t support the Excel feature.
  • If using managed devices (e.g., testing centers), the LockDown Browser version must be 2.1.3.02 (Windows) or 2.1.3.03 (macOS) or higher.
  • If an exam previously used the built-in spreadsheet tool for LockDown Browser, follow these instructions to change it to Excel.
  • A practice test that uses Excel is highly recommended.

Improved Alternative Format Display Based on Document Type and Status

Students now see only alternative formats that will work for their document type, preventing failed attempts with encrypted, corrupted, or malformed files. This improvement eliminates frustration by hiding formats that cannot be generated and provides clear messaging when alternative formats are unavailable.

Improved Link Checking Excludes Same-Domain Course Links

Links within MyCourses that point to other course content will not be flagged as broken during accessibility scanning. This enhancement eliminates false positive broken link warnings for internal course navigation links, providing more accurate accessibility reports.

Faster Accessibility Report Generation for File Documents

Panorama has optimized the report generation process with accessibility reports for file documents, now generating faster to reduce wait times when analyzing your content for accessibility issues.
