Introduction
Upgrading your device to Windows 11 will set your default mail application as new Outlook, as opposed to classic Outlook that you likely used before the upgrade. Read on for key information related to using new Outlook and how it compares to classic Outlook.
What is new Outlook?
Since August 2024, new Outlook has been generally available to all users. Some notable features of new Outlook include:
- Very similar interface and functionality to the Outlook web application (Claw Mail)
- Seamless integration with Microsoft 365 applications
- Better integration with Windows 11
Please be aware that classic Outlook is no longer under development by Microsoft. New Outlook is under development now, and details about upcoming features can be found in the Microsoft 365 Roadmap.

How to access new Outlook
Please schedule to bring your GGC-managed laptop to the Help Desk for its required Windows 11 update before October 2025. When you upgrade your laptop, new Outlook will be the default mail application. However, this does not mean that classic Outlook is gone.
How to access classic Outlook

There is a toggle switch in the upper right corner of new and classic Outlook applications that allows you to easily switch between the two until April 2026.
