Prohibited Software and Services
In alignment with the Prohibited Software and Services Policy issued by the State of Georgia, the following applications are restricted and prohibited from being installed on GGC-owned or issued devices.
- RedNote (social media app)
- DeepSeek (AI chatbot)
- Webull (online stock trading)
- Tiger Brokers (online stock trading)
- Tik Tok (social media app)
- WeChat (messaging app)
- Telegram (messaging app)
- Moomoo (investing app)
- Lemon8 (social media app).
- AI Note-taking tools (e.g., Otter.ai and Read.ai)
Prohibited Software and Services Policy Explained
The Prohibited Software and Services Policy (SS-22-002) is a security guideline provided by the state of Georgia. The policy is listed in the Enterprise Policies, Standards and Guidelines and specifically references prohibited software and services.
In this policy, technology providers, products, applications, software, services, and websites that are developed by, managed by or connected to entities that have direct or indirect ties to those deemed unfriendly and/or hostile to the interests of the State of Georgia, cannot be installed or operated on devices owned, issued or maintained by Georgia Gwinnett College.
Prohibited Software & Services (SS-22-002) | Enterprise Policies, Standards, and Guidelines
What You Need to Know:
- Employees of Georgia Gwinnett College, including student assistants, may not use prohibited apps on any GGC-owned or issued device.
- Employees may not access sensitive or protected USG or GGC data on any device with these apps installed, including personal devices.
- Use of AI notetaking tools such as Otter.ai and Read.ai are explicitly prohibited in Microsoft Teams and other web conferencing platforms. To capture notes for virtual meetings and conferences, meeting hosts may use recording and transcription services available in Teams.
